Montonn Jira is a trailblazing producer, composer, and sound designer whose genre-blending artistry spans music, film, and live performance. Having studied composition and electronic music production, Montonn’s expertise ranges from crafting intricate soundscapes to producing polished pop hits. His multifaceted career includes producing, engineering, and mixing records, and serving as musical director for major festivals and global tours.
Hailing from Samutprakarn, Thailand, Montonn’s computer-based production roots have fueled his rise in both local and international scenes. In 2007, he became musical director and programmer for The Neptunes-produced artist Kenna, touring with superstars like Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, and Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode. His performance at Live Earth, one of the largest concerts in history, showcased his ability to captivate massive audiences as a band leader and director.
As a producer, arranger, musician, and DJ, Montonn has earned global acclaim. His remixes for Thai acts like Modern Dog, Siam Secret Service, Penguin Villa, and Slot Machine highlight his versatility, while collaborations with artists like Hugo, Slot Machine, 25 Hours, and Joni Anwar underscore his broad influence. In 2020, he released his sophomore solo album, DuayKwamKaorop, a luminous folktronica masterpiece. Crafted over a year with a large batch of song ideas distilled into 13 tracks, the album explores love and loss with dreamy melodies and intricate arrangements, earning praise as one of Thailand’s most ambitious records in a decade.
Through his label, Samutprakarn Sound, Montonn champions innovative music, releasing his own music and fostering new talent. Whether sculpting ambient techno, producing indie anthems, or shaping Thailand’s cultural landscape, Montonn’s “Samutprakarn Sound” continues to resonate throughout music circles, driven by his relentless creative passion.
